Every toilet replacement starts with the same question: what's the flange look like when the old toilet comes off? The rough-in is the distance from the finished wall to the center of the floor drain. Standard is 12 inches. Measure before you quote, not when you arrive with the fixture. A 10-inch toilet costs 15–25% more than a standard 12-inch model and has fewer style options. When a customer supplies their own toilet, your labor rate stays the same — but your liability changes. If the fixture leaks or fails, you installed it, and the argument about who's responsible for the fixture cost becomes your problem. Add a line to your service agreement: "Labor warranty applies to workmanship only. No warranty on customer-supplied fixtures." Get it signed.
